Empire of the Sun brought their full spectacle to Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston, turning the night into a colorful, theatrical experience from start to finish. The show featured two openers, Midnight Generation and Polo & Pan, before Empire of the Sun took the stage for the main event.
Midnight Generation kicked off the night with their dreamy electro-pop sound, mixing electronic beats with Latin influences. The five-piece brought plenty of energy to the stage, with matching jumpsuits, a strong lighting design and live vocal and synth effects woven into their set. Their sound had a fun, danceable quality that got the crowd warmed up for the rest of the night. They closed out their set with “ Don’t Wait Up,” bringing everyone together before handing the stage over to the next opener.
Polo & Pan followed with a completely different energy, performing as a duo and incorporating plenty of cultural-inspired remixes into their set. Their ominous blue-lit intro immediately set a mood, while their electronic sound and playful production kept the crowd moving. It was their third show in Texas, adding another stop to their run through the state.

Then came Empire of the Sun, and they went all in on the theatrics. From dancers in elaborate, beautiful costumes to dramatic lighting, smoke effects and an elaborate stage setup, every part of the performance felt like a visual experience. The set included classics like “We Are the People,” “Alive” and “The Spins,” giving longtime fans plenty to sing along to.
Between the music, choreography and production, the show felt much bigger than just a concert. It was a full-on spectacle that made the night at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion feel like its own little world.
