It’s OK to be shaking in your boots when facing 1,000 ghouls or ruthless drug lords. The key to beating both, however, is keeping cool—something the characters in this weekend’s two new releases are plenty good at.
“Ghostbusters”
Physicist Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) will see their years of ghosts-are-real research pay off when all sorts of apparitions pop up in Manhattan. Joining the duo is engineer Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) and subway worker Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones). The new film has been drowning in negativity since release, but maybe viewers should give it some slack thanks to its all-star cast from “Saturday Night Live” and “Thor.”
Not sure about the new theme song, though.
“The Infiltrator”
Pablo Escobar is a name feared by many, respected by some and wanted by federal agents. Robert Mazur (Bryan Cranston), Kathy Ertz (Diane Kruger) and Emir Abreu (John Leguizamo) have a plan to take him down – with Mazur doing the titular work under the alias “Bob Musella.” Of course, it takes only one slip-up to put everybody in danger. Expect this affair to be vivid and tense thanks to quality direction from Brad Furman and intense acting from a “Breaking Bad” veteran. The thriller is also based on Mazur’s book.
