“Ben-Hur”
The new adaptation of Lew Wallace’s novel sees a titular nobleman (Jack Huston) placed into slavery by his adoptive brother, Messala (Toby Kebbell). So begins Ben-Hur’s journey to settle the score that will involve encountering Jesus (Rodrigo Santoro) and winning a deadly chariot race. Not sure if this is the remake anybody asks for, but it does exude its own appeal with the director of “Wanted”‘s action-oriented style and, for once, Morgan Freeman playing someone other than God.
“War Dogs”
The crew from “The Hangover” will bring viewers on another wild ride when two childhood friends, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill), become arms suppliers after winning a $300 million contract from the U.S. Government. Yes, this is based on the true story. A note to the film aficionados: don’t be surprised at the déjà vus from “Scarface” that you’ll get when looking at the film’s poster.
“Kubo and the Two Strings”
Kubo (Art Parkinson) has awakened a darkness from his past. To defeat it, he must join forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron), Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) and learn how to master the magical instrument passed down to him. The latest film from LAIKA, which has previously wowed audiences with “Coraline, “ParaNorman” and “The Boxtrolls,” will also see its CEO for the first time in the director’s chair. Check out the review for this film on Monday, right here on Cooglife.
Limited Attention: “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV”
A film with a “Limited Attention” tag means it will be shown in a modest number of theaters and, in some cases, might be released in Houston later than the advertised date. Take note of the cinema name if you go see this!
The prequel and parallel story to the “Final Fantasy XV” game showcases how the powerful Lucis Kingdom is on the brink of war with the cunning Niflheim Empire and the king’s elite guardians—Kingsglaive—as the force that might be able to drive invaders away. In an attempt to revitalize Japan’s most iconic media franchise, Square Enix has gone all out with the marketing for “Final Fantasy XV” with this film, an online anime series and, of course, the game that is 10 years in the making. Cooglife was recently invited to see the film and here’s our review!
Let us know what you will be seeing, and stay tuned for the next Reel Mood of the Week!
