Replay Vintage Goods is set to open on Saturday, October 15 with the REPLAY Returns Celebration Bash, and it’s going to be a day-and-night event full of fun and, of course, quirky yet lovable items for vintage devotees. It starts at 2:30 p.m. and will go on for as long as people keep coming, and if the Facebook page is any indication, there will be no shortage of excited visitors.
Owners Laura and “Crazy Mike”, as the duo dubs themselves, have transitioned their old shop, Replay on 19th Street, into a new emporium full of vintage clothing, home décor, jewelry, retro boots and much more.
Only two doors down from Replay is The PLACE Upstairs, a self-proclaimed curiosities boutique also run by Mike and Laura; full of antiques, but rather than clothes, it’s stocked full of “wonderfully weird oddities.” The shop is situated above Continental Club in the eccentric Midtown area, although the shop is in a league of its own. The PLACE Upstairs is known for its unusual items and late hours. On weekdays, they open the shop on a whim, announcing hours on their social media pages, but they rarely close before 2 a.m.
This is great for all those night crawlers who get bored when all the other stores close. The PLACE Upstairs caters to an offbeat crowd, with items you definitely can’t find in any normal shop, including prosthetic eye pendants, megaladon teeth, straitjackets and even an albino sun glow cobra. I couldn’t make these things up if I tried—you truly have to see it to believe it.
Avid vintage hunters and novices alike will find something they enjoy at the reopening of the The PLACE Upstairs’ slightly less outlandish alter ego, Replay Vintage Goods. Mike and Laura were unavailable for comment because of their hard work planning this huge party to celebrate the reopening of the shop.
