For this “Reel Mood of the Week,” we’re welcoming five films that have a mystery at their core.
“Boo! A Madea Halloween”
Tyler Perry’s alter-ego will (hopefully) show the ghosts that they are fools for messing with her in the eighth installment of the “Madea” series. All the chaos began when she is asked to look after a bunch of kids on the scariest night of the year.
“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back”
The second film about author Lee Child’s investigator/former Army officer character will see him (Tom Cruise) trying to prove that Major Susan Turner (Cobie Smulders) is wrongly accused of treason. The rescue, of course, leads to a bigger and much more disturbing conspiracy within the U.S. government.
“Keeping Up with the Joneses”
It doesn’t hurt to spy on your neighbors every now and then, but get ready to be stuck in a bigger game when they actually are, well, spies. Karen and Jeff Gaffney (Isla Fisher and Zach Galifianakis) are in a situation the moment they discover the secret lives, and the enemies, of Natalie and Tim Jones (Gal Gadot and John Hamm).
Ouija: Origin of Evil
The new chapter about the well-known spirit board actually goes back to 1965. Alice Zander (Elizabeth Reaser) and her two daughters, Paulina (Annalise Basso) and Doris (Lulu Wilson), find wealth by scamming people who want to contact the dead. Now, the family will have to deal with genuine evil when an entity possessed Doris after she tried out the Ouija board. Hmm, already sounds more interesting than the first one.
Limited Attention: “The Handmaiden”
One of Korean cinema’s famous trio, Park Chan-wook, is back with an adaptation of Sarah Waters’ novel, “Fingersmith.” Check out one of the year’s finest trailers above about a con man’s plan to swindle a Japanese heiress, Lady Hideko (Kim Min-hee), becoming a tad out of control when the mark has feelings for the pickpocket he hired, Sook-hee (Kim Tae-ri).
Let us know what you’ll be watching, and stay tuned for the next “Reel Mood of the Week!”
