On behalf of Cooglife and CoogRadio, I want to welcome all freshmen to a new semester at the University of Houston. I want to start off by introducing myself. I go by the name “Rue.” I am a senior, and I am majoring in media production. My first two years of college were not what I expected them to be. I had my fun, but the majority of the time, I was worried about losing myself, taking care of myself, making friends, deadlines, and the list went on and on.I did not have any guidance when I was a freshman. I did not have a mentor or role model to guide me through my “college life.” I did not have anyone to go to when “college life” hit me hard.
Throughout those two years, I came through those cracks, and I want you to do the same. I may be a stranger to you, but just know that I care about how you adjust to the “college life.” Sounds weird, right? Well, I am not alone. Helpful resources on campus say so. UH has staff experienced in all areas, who are ready to help out the “cubs.” Campus resources, however, are not limited to freshmen but are for any student who attends UH.
My past events and the support of many campus resources inspired me to create The Freshmen Series. The Freshmen Series is a podcast designed for students who are new to the UH. Whether you are a freshman, a transfer student, a student who pursued college but decided to take a break or an out-of-state student, you are still considered a new student. You are introduced to new professors, a new campus and a new university. So, The Freshmen Series has your back. Each week a specific topic (all freshmen-related) is discussed, and everyone converses and shares their experiences. We want you to tune in, whether it’s the day of, tomorrow or even a year from now!
