After stuffing ourselves fuller than the turkey on Thanksgiving, it’s time to get into the Christmas spirit and what better way to do it than by spending a comfortable night in watching Christmas movies. Let’s dive right in to my top 10 Christmas movies.
10. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
A Christmas favorite for the past 70 years, “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a feel-good story of a man who finds himself suicidal on Christmas Eve but is visited by an angel who takes him on a journey through his life in order to save it.
9. The Santa Clause (1994)
After accidentally murdering Santa Claus one Christmas Eve, Scott Calvin suddenly finds himself with very big shoes to fill — and even bigger pants — as he must replace and assume the role of the slain Santa.
8. Arthur Christmas (2011)
A heart-warming movie about the Claus family centered around Santa’s youngest son, Arthur, who attempts to deliver a present to a child Santa has missed. Emphasis on attempt. However, what Arthur lacks in delivery expertise, sleigh driving experience and general competence he makes up for in true Christmas spirit.
7. Prep & Landing (2009)
“Prep & Landing” follows the adventures of two elves who are part of an elite organization to prepare houses around the world for the arrival of Santa.
6. A Christmas Carol (2009)
Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas story with Jim Carrey as the voice of Ebenezer Scrooge. I think that’s all you need to hear.
5. Rise of the Guardians (2012)
Jack Frost, Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman are the Guardians and must come together to defeat the Boogeyman who has returned to fill the children of the world with nightmares and fear.
4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Based on Dr. Seuss’ children’s book of the same title, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” tells the story of the Grinch (shocking, I know), a bitter creature with a strong hatred for Christmas, and Cindy-Lou, a young girl bent on changing his heart.
3. The Polar Express (2004)
Based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, “The Polar Express” tells the story of a young boy who has begun to question the existence of Santa Claus as he boards the Polar Express on a voyage to the North Pole.
2. Elf (2003)
Will Ferrell is Buddy the Elf in “Elf,” a movie about a human raised at the North Pole who journeys to New York City to find his biological father and finds it to be a little different than what he’s used to.
1. Eloise at Christmastime (2003)
She is Eloise and she is six. She’s also here to save Christmas when she senses something fishy about the fiance of the owner of the Plaza’s daughter, where she lives in the penthouse suite with her nanny.
And with that, we have reached the conclusion of my top ten Christmas movie picks that are sure to put you in a holly jolly mood.
