I remember watching “Jumanji” like any other childhood memory. The 1995 original provided a sense of adventure and excitement that was desirable for kids and adults alike. It didn’t take long for “Jumanji” to claim its title and earn its place in the hearts of many.
In the original movie it was clear that was clear that Robin Williams brought the screenplay to life. He played a memorable character that was both humorous and relatable. His performance resulted in him winning the Saturn Award for Best Actor. This created some controversy with fans since no one knew if the actors of the new film could fill the shoes of those in the original.
The 2017 release in late December titled “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” sucked us into a video game rather than the original board game. The film takes you 20 years into the future where four kids become their avatars and have to survive Jumanji. The film proved to have some evolutionary updates, catching up with our technology driven society today while playing on the original “Jumanji”. Director Jake Kasdan did a good job with making the viewer reminisce and appreciate the childhood favorite. Despite that, the plot certainly evolved along with the action-adventure aspect and the development and portrayal of the characters. Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson AND Nick Jonas? Yes, please!
“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” was a non-stop laughter filled action fantasy. While it had a similar plot as the original, it had a few twists, which made the movie more exciting and unique. Though “Jumanji” was an epic, and the “OG” of the two movies, this new version was not disappointing. It didn’t fail to bring back the memories of Kirsten Dunst, Jonathan Hyde and the late Robin Williams.
This classic re-made is a must-watch. So, if you haven’t watched it already, what are you waiting for?
