Some days you wake up and immediately you know that it’s just one of those days. Your mood is nasty; everything feels off. It’s terrible. Just plain terrible. But worry not, here are some ways you can get over this slump quick.
- Listen to music
Just plug some headphones in and block out the world. Not only will it keep people from bothering you but it buys you some well-needed alone time if you can’t actually be alone. Just listen, feel and try not to think about anything at all.
- Tidy up
Declutter your room, your car or your work space. Whatever needs to be tidied up. A clean space is an instant mood lifter and the satisfaction you get from this small act of productivity will help too.
- Indulge
Craving some chocolate? Eat the whole bar. In the mood to binge watch the new season of Jessica Jones? The couch is calling you. Come across that pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing for weeks? Take this as a sign and treat yourself. Allowing yourself these simple pleasures is sure to get you feeling like you again.
- Exercise
Literally the complete opposite of the last one but will have the same effect nonetheless. The release of endorphins you get from working out will literally force your brain to feel happier. Fake it til you make it, right? And as Elle Woods says, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.”
- Wallow
If none of the above works, why fight the feeling? Just cozy on up in your bed or in your significant other’s arms and stew in that foul mood. Sometimes getting through it is the best way to get over it and the release of these emotions will make you feel better faster.
- Puppies
The final, foolproof mood-booster. Pick up a puppy. Cradle it in your arms. Look into its eyes. See how much it loves you. Cured instantly.
Everyone has their off days. With the help of these tips, those off days will turn into on days a lot quicker. And let’s face it: as college students we need all the help we can get.
