Houston is known for its food scene but brunch rarely gets the love it deserves. Houston has one of the best places for that space between breakfast and lunch and this article will hopefully serve it justice. Here are some of my favorite brunch spots in Houston that you can never go wrong with.
Empire Cafe
One of my recent favorite spots is Empire Cafe in Montrose. It’s a little pricey but the food is absolutely delicious.
So far, I’ve tried the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich, the Avocado Toast, Empire Cafe Benedict, an Iced Caramel Latte, their Acai Bowl and one of their delicious cakes. Each and every one of the menu items has such an explosive flavor and it leaves you feeling full after every meal.
If it’s your first time going, I suggest trying their Croissant Breakfast Sandwich since that was the first one I tried when I went! I promise you won’t regret it.
First Watch
Now, some might say this is a basic brunch spot but you could never go wrong with First Watch! As you might see throughout this article, I really love traditional breakfasts so for this place, I highly suggest getting the Trifecta with the Belgian waffle.
This was before I tried Waffle House but First Watch really knows how to do a good waffle! There are some locations that are a few minutes from campus if you’d like to give it a try.
Tiny Boxwoods
This place went viral on Tiktok a few months back for its charcuterie board and believe it when I say I’m obsessed with charcuterie boards. The cheese and meat board could be better but honestly, if you’re going for a cute fancy place for brunch, Tiny Boxwoods is perfect.
This place is definitely there for the aesthetics since I think the menu is meant for people with expensive taste buds. If you’re looking for a place to gossip with excellent service, Tiny Boxwoods is the place to go!
Brass Tacks
Known as one of the best study spots for UH students, Brass Tacks also has an extensive menu of soups, sandwiches and of course, coffees that make for a nice place to eat brunch.
At this place, you can knock out some assignments while also making sure you’re feeding your stomach with the nutrients it needs to get that A for your class. The seasonal drinks are one of my favorites so make sure to order whatever’s on that menu when you go!
Roast & Brew
Last but not least, Roast & Brew is another good study spot with yummy food on the menu. A little bit on the small size, this coffee shop gives off a cozy vibe with a nice selection of seating options for you to get work done.
The coffees are delicious and I really enjoyed the traditional breakfast when I got it. When I go back, I want to try the breakfast croissant and see if it rivals Empire Cafe’s. If you try it before me, let me know what you think!
