UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

Cucumber salads have been a quick snack known by many around the world for some time. College students, especially, wouldn’t necessarily be engaged in “eating an entire cucumber,” until it gained traction on TikTok.

Logan Moffitt, a Canadian-based content creator on TikTok, has been in the spotlight for the past few months for his quick, easy and delicious recipes. Originally gaining a following for his kimchi recipes, Moffitt one day decided to upload his usual cucumber creations.

Little did he know, this would lead to another wave of supporters on his page.

Moffitt’s influx of new followers have allowed him to collaborate with companies such as DoorDash and Sephora. His influence has even reached a Houston-based La La Land, with the everything bagel recipe being used.

Although Moffitt doesn’t get paid to make this content, he truly does enjoy creating new recipes and sharing them with others. I chose three and decided to try them out with some twists: The jalapeno popper, everything bagel and chamoy candy.

Jalapeno Popper

Ingredients: Chive and onion cream cheese–but I’m sure regular is okay, red onion, jalapeños, bacon bits, salt, pepper and of course cucumber!

Chop, chop, chop and voila! The flavor was on par! It really did resemble a jalapeno popper.

Some notes when making this is it was a bit tough to shake the salad around with the block of cream cheese. Also, I didn’t take some seeds out of the jalapenos, so it was quite spicy; however, this can be adjusted by preference.

Overall, I would definitely make this recipe again, even though it’s somewhat difficult to shake up.

Everything Bagel Cucumber

Ingredients: Smoked salmon, cream cheese, ranch dressing, red onion, salt, pepper, capers, lemon and you guessed it–cucumber!

For this recipe, the ranch made it easier to shake the ingredients up, since it has thinner consistency than cream cheese.

This recipe is one of the most popular Logan recipes, so I would have been disappointed if it let me down, but it didn’t! The capers and lemon gave a zesty twist on the ranch and cream cheese. The only downside was the salmon gave the mix an odd texture.

Overall, I will probably make this again tomorrow.

Chamoy Cucumber

Ingredients: Chilitos Chamoy Gusher Balls, Lucas Salsagheti candy, Lucas chamoy, Lucas candy powder and again–cucumber!

The ingredients were easy to mix together and the chamoy loosened the candy up.

This combination is a staple in Texas, especially Houston. I’ve had it numerous times, whether I made it myself or bought it from a refresqueria.

Overall, since this recipe isn’t new to me, I will most likely be eating it again.

Trying these recipes was definitely something different. It allowed me to explore sweet, savory, zesty combinations with a common staple in everyone’s fridge!
