Houston’s Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre recently announced its 2025–2026 season. This will be Alley Theatre’s 79th season.
Artistic Director Rob Melrose says, “This season is designed to ignite the imagination and stir the soul.”
Whether it’s the well-known theatrical staples or the new productions premiering, there is something for everyone. With 11 productions spanning various genres, cultures and histories, the 2025–2026 season features adventure, heart, humor and inspiration. It is not to be missed.
The first three productions open the season with mystery and suspense at the forefront.
At the Hubbard Theatre, “The Mirror Crack’d,” runs from July 11–Aug. 17 and “The Da Vinci Code,” runs from Sept. 19–Oct.
Corresponding with the spooky season, “The Body Snatcher,” from Oct. 3–26 at the Neuhaus Theatre.
For the holidays, a decades-long Houston tradition continues, plus new additions.
Yes, Charles Dickens’ classic, “A Christmas Carol,” returns to the Alley Theatre. It runs from Nov. 16–Dec. 28 at the Hubbard Theatre.
If A Christmas Carol isn’t enough to scratch the Christmas itch, the Alley will also run: “The Night Shift Before Christmas.” The adult, holiday comedy with a spin on the classic ghosts of past, present and future as drive-thru worker Margot works an overnight shift, runs from Nov. 28–Dec. 28 at the Neuhaus Theatre.
The Alley Theatre is entering 2026 with tales of camaraderie, resilience and self-acceptance.
At the Hubbard Theatre, “Real Women Have Curves,” based on the hit film of the same title, runs from Jan. 23–Feb. 15.
At the Neuhaus Theatre, “English,” the 2023 Pulitzer Prize-winning play runs from Feb. 13 to March 8.
The season continues with mixed emotions and themes of societal pressure, identity and introspection, as well as alienation—figuratively and literally.
At the Hubbard Theatre, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” runs from March 6–29 and
“Fences,” from April 17 to May 10.
Making its world premiere from May 8–31 at the Neuhaus Theatre is “Dear Alien.”
The season is to close out with thrill and entrapment–perhaps the goal is to keep theatergoers in a hold ahead of the season to follow.
Based on the chilling novel by horror icon Stephen King, “Misery” runs from May 29–June 21 at the Hubbard Theatre.
Artistic Director Melrose summarized this eclectic and captivating preview of the 79th season’s catalog.
“Each play in the Hubbard Theatre is a well-known work–ensuring audiences a season of beloved plays and exhilarating experiences,” Melrose says.
Melrose also encourages audiences to widen their theatrical horizons with lesser-known productions. “For the theatrically adventurous, our Neuhaus Theatre season delivers thought-provoking stories in an up-close, intimate setting,” Melrose says.
