It’s rodeo season, baby! Get ready for rides, carnival snacks and the livestock show at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo–all while dressed for the occasion in true rodeo fashion.

One of the most important parts of this event is how you show up. Dressing up for the rodeo adds an extra dimension of fun to the experience.

Yes, get your hat and boots ready, but while you do here is a list of some other rodeo fashion essentials. You might even already have some pieces in your wardrobe.

Gingham

Gingham is a big trend this year. Red and white gingham tops or dresses, specifically, would make the perfect addition of Southern flair to your outfit.

Denim on Denim

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake did it, and so can you. Denim-on-denim looks are fabulous and don’t go out of style. Add a belt with a shiny buckle and you’re ready to go.

Vest

A vest as a top is a statement. Leather or lace is the way to go. To add an extra touch of country, wear a bolo tie.

Fringe Jacket

Fringe is the moment. Maybe this isn’t something you have readily available, but your parents’ closet may be a thrifty location to find exactly the fringe you’re looking for.

Turquoise

Turquoise adds an extra pop of color. Whether it’s on your jewelry, belt or boots, it will brighten your look.

Jewelry

While turquoise is a must, if it isn’t your style, other southern-themed jewelry will work just as well. Little touches such as a dainty horseshoe necklace or a belt buckle ring can elevate your look.

However, the rodeo is supposed to be fun! So, make sure whatever you end up wearing makes you both comfortable and confident.

Most importantly, enjoy the rodeo experience fully!

Happy rodeo season, Houston.
