The NoSleep Podcast is the first of many on Cooglife’s summer podcast recommendation list.

The team is starting weekly podcast recommendations to get Coogs through long walks on the beach or long hours at internships this summer.

This week’s suggestion is for those looking for some serious scares this summer.

The long-running audio show The NoSleep Podcast presents a collection of submitted horror stories weekly. Launched in 2011, the show is currently on its 22nd season.

All episodes are free to listen to on both Spotify and the NoSleep Podcast website. However, those who subscribe to the website’s “Sleepless Sanctuary” membership program gain access to full-length episodes and extra offers.

Each episode focuses on a batch of stories, expanding upon the theme of each season.

Season 22 is nearing the end of the usual 25-episode run with the theme of unknown voices calling, ranging from ghostly messengers to cellular stalkers. “Feast of the Valkyries” from episode 15 and “Zombie Road” from episode 12 are some of the fan favorites.

Those looking for prior season recommendations can look towards Seasons 17 and 18. The former presents horrifying folklore. The latter takes the audience through decades of horror. Both also bookend each episode with mid-season story excerpts.

Season 17 has “Goat Valley Campgrounds,” a dark comedy following a park ranger monster wrangler, while 18 has “This Book Will Kill You,” a tragic tale of a cursed teen and an other-worldly witch.

In terms of voice acting and production quality, The NoSleep Podcast is second to none.

With fully scored episodes by Brandon Boone and a wide cast of actors, David Cummings introduces every episode as the Showrunner. Cummings presents the theme and guides listeners through each story.

He also lends his acting abilities in some episodes alongside the main cast of 33 contributors. Each provides a variety of voices ranging from British villains to stoner teens. Some actors appear more often than others, but it’s always a treat to guess what character they get to inhabit.

While this esteemed team has been a pillar of online horror, there are some critiques from listeners online.

Spotify comments and posts on the unofficial Reddit discussion board feature complaints about the abundance of abrupt ads seemingly taking over the previously “meta” sponsor segments. Additionally, subscribers have also voiced recent concern about the transition to a new subscription service which conflicts with previous subscriber access.

Other complaints also include issues with story quality and episode length fluctuations.

Some episodes don’t make the mark, but with 14 years’ worth of stories and hundreds of hours to listen to, there is sure to be something for every horror fan.

Check back next weekend for another podcast recommendation. Expect something you can sing along to! Until then, give The NoSleep Podcast a listen.
