UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

Editor’s Picks

Coogs have been back on campus for over a week, but after chopping it up with many, they have admitted to still figuring out the vision for their room décor. While some have a solid white, black or gray base with pops of red to work off of, others described their spaces as being solely full decorated with free merch from move-in week tables.

With this many Coogs being uncertain about how their rooms will end up looking, it’s only right that Cooglife shared some styling ideas. We figured a color scheme would be a good place to start.

Here are six editor’s picks for accent colors that pair nicely with University of Houston’s scarlet red.

Forest Green

In late 2024, Pinterest predicted the 2025 cherry-coded trend. Pairing a darker shade of green with some school pride décor would make any space Pinterest-worthy.

Butter Yellow

Another 2025 trending color is butter yellow. This color was all the rage over the summer, but it can still be incorporated into fall room decor. The fact that it pairs nicely with red is just a plus.

Cotton Candy Pink

Ever since 2023, some of us haven’t stopped living in a Barbie world. Taking a lighter shade of pink and pairing it with the UH red makes for the perfect collision of these two worlds.

Baby Blue

This controversial color choice just makes sense. It’s so UH-coded. We shouldn’t even need to convince anyone of it.

Navy Blue

It’s 2025, and as much as minimalism takes over the world, it seemingly cannot rid it of the nautical décor and color combo.

Now, we’re not saying you should go out and get an anchor-shaped wall art or sailboat sheets, but pairing the scarlet red with navy blue is a yes for us!

More Red!

And that’s not the name of the color. We quite literally mean pairing the UH red with more shades of red.

The editor’s pick is to go with a darker shade like a sangria or mahogany red, but layering any shades of the color would be great for the ultimate school-pride final boss. It shows off school spirit nicely without being overly monochromatic.
