Let’s face the reality. College life isn’t all about clubbing with friends and going to parties, at least not for everyone. Some students are homebodies.
Homebodies thrive in the quiet, value their personal space and enjoy their alone time. They tend to experience the joy of missing out rather than the fear of missing out, and they still have an equally fulfilling college experience, just through different activities.
For many students, college life is also not necessarily as glamorous as it appears to be in the movies and TV shows. For homebodies, the non-hollywood-like college life is a choice they consciously make, so we looked into what homebodies actually do on a typical weekend.
Spoiler: They’re not spending it jamming out at a concert or partying until late in the night.
Catching Up on Assignments
Believe it or not, homebodies enjoy maximizing the benefits from doing simple activities, even if it seems as uninteresting as catching up on assignments.
The weekdays for many college students are full of action, whether it is attending face-to-face lectures, spending three hours in the lab, attending an organization’s meeting or staying back on campus to attend an event. As a result, many students are unable to find adequate time to work on pending assignments.
The weekends are therefore a great opportunity to complete those dreadful assignments, given that most of them are due on Sunday night.
Cozy Nights In
For homebodies, cozying up into the comfiest set of pajamas instead of dolling up into a funky party outfit is the way to go.
Rather than being accompanied by fellow partygoers, some students find companionship in a newly released movie or series, or even the latest read from their favorite authors. Not only is this a way to get some much-needed alone time, it also allows our bodies to get some physical rest, while indulging in something that brings us joy.
Revisiting a Hobby
Weekends are the right chance for homebodies to devote some time to a hobby, whether it is revisiting an old one or trying out a new one.
For some people, this may look like going to the gym to do an intense workout, trying out a new recipe to meal prep for the upcoming week, creating a mood-based playlist, painting or playing video games with friends.
Regardless of what a homebody chooses to do, the purpose of having hobbies is to have an outlet to relieve stress and balance out a rigorous academic workload with something lighthearted that cheers the person up.
Subtle Socializing
Who says homebodies do not socialize at all?
Being a homebody does not mean being antisocial. Rather than hanging out in large crowds, homebodies may prefer inviting a few friends over to spend some quality time with each other.
This lets people maintain their relationships without having to drain too much of their social battery. And let’s be real, aren’t those the kind of bonds that should be nurtured more often?
Recover and Recharge
With busy college schedules keeping students on their toes, it can sometimes feel like they are operating like machines throughout the week, with their battery running out by the time Friday arrives.
In order for the machine to function at full capacity again, it is essential to let the battery rest and recharge. And that is exactly what the weekend may look like for some homebodies.
Recovering from the rigors of the past week is necessary for the sake of an individual’s physical and mental health before diving into the coming week. This prevents people from experiencing burnout and exhaustion.
Besides, regardless of whether someone is a homebody or not, everyone deserves to enjoy being unproductive from time to time, without feeling any guilt.
The beauty of college life is that everyone has a different version of it.
Whether you enjoy experiencing the city lights late at night or staying tucked under your blankets, the choice is up to you.
At the end of the day, you should do what makes you the happiest because that is what matters the most.
