The holiday season is finally here, and needless to say, most students need the break. One of the best parts about any holiday season break is that they usually include spending time with loved ones and savoring great food! With many people already being vegetarian and many more giving up meat these days, navigating the food part can be a little tricky.

If you’re the family cook, here are some alternative dishes to chef up in consideration of those loved ones who are not eating turkey this year. If you’re not, then send this to them.

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts

Caramelized Brussels sprouts are definitely a go-to option. It is easy to make, requires minimal ingredients and is healthy as well.

All you need to do is toss the Brussels sprouts in honey and vinegar dressing. Keep tossing the sprouts until they are glazed and crispy.

Pro tip: Roasting at high heat on a bare metal sheet pan will be the best practice to get them the perfect brown color along with the crisp.

Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Another easy to prepare dish would be roasted sweet potatoes. Not only is it easy to make, it’s also super fast!

It’s also very dynamic and can go with salad, as a side or with any other dish. For this recipe, you’ll need sweet potatoes, kosher salt, black pepper and neutral oil.

Cranberry Brie Bites

If you want to go fancy and like to cook, a total steal away would be these bite-sized Cranberry Brie Bites

They give the perfect holiday vibe with their vibrant colors and can be easily used as an appetizer for Thanksgiving dinner. Bonus: They only take about 30 minutes to prepare.

It’s made of a flaky base from crescent dough, topped with a sweet cranberry sauce and a cheesy brie along with some pecans.

Corn Casserole

Do something unique this year! Instead of the classic green bean casserole, try out this amazing corn casserole

The good thing about this recipe is that it cannot be too sweet or too spicy. If made correctly, this is the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, catering to all kinds of taste buds!

Stuffed Mushrooms

This is a personal favorite and go-to vegetarian dish. You can never go wrong with stuffed mushrooms and almost everyone savors them.

You can customize this dish according to your flavors, be it garlicky or tangy. It includes breadcrumbs and lots and lots of cheese!

Make sure that you have enough time to stuff the mushrooms and bake them, so that they are perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.

Thanksgiving Cauliflower

So what if you’re not eating turkey? You can carve a whole roasted cauliflower instead! It’s definitely a healthier and easy option to include this Thanksgiving.

You can customize it according to the table as well. You can add seasoning to it, glaze it or add some mushroom gravy. Everything will only add more flavor to this dish.
