In order to get the Houston experience, you do not have to break the bank. Which, as a college student, is a very important thing to consider.

There are so many fun things to do with your friends, your family or even by yourself around the city. Whether you venture outside or stick to the air conditioning, there are certainly lots of activities to fill your day with for free.

Visiting Museums

On Thursdays, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Heath Museum of Houston amongst other museums in the area, offer free admission until closing. Spend the day going on a “museum hop” to see all of the different exhibits offered.

Near Rice University, there is the Menil Collection, which is free to guests wanting to experience the art offered there.

Going Outdoors

Be mindful of the weather when choosing this one, but consider visiting Discovery Green for a nice walk.

There is also Buffalo Bayou Park, great for picnics and watching the sunset over the skyline. Ride a bike, take your pet on a walk or bring a volleyball to any of the courts they have there.

At Miller Outdoor Theatre you can watch a free show in the park. This can include stage plays, live music performances or dance shows. Just make sure to reserve a ticket under the covered pavilion. Who does not love free entertainment?

Killing Time

Looking for something to take up the day? Visit the Houston Public Library, pick a book, find a corner and read!

If you plan on sightseeing, be sure to check out the Gerald D. Hines Water Wall. Be sure to take lots of pictures, too!

There is so much fun to discover in the city just as long as you look in the right places. Just talking a walk around scenic parks or admiring some artwork is a great way to fill your day, and keep your pockets filled.
