Fun Things To Do In Fall

Features, Holiday  /   /  By Amina Khan

As we enter the middle of autumn, it’s time to look at a couple of activities to keep things lively this fall!

Paint a Fall Pumpkin

This is a classic must-activity for each fall. Whether you prefer to meet with a group of friends at the park or do it on your own at home, this activity allows you to let your creative flow run wild.

As a bonus, when you’re done, it’ll result in some cute decorations for your front porch or for the windowsill in your dorm room. It’s the perfect way to get in the festive fall mood as the leaves slowly begin to change colors.

Visit a Fall Farmer’s Market

Visiting a farmers’ market is a fun way to enjoy the breeze outside while also finding fresh produce and supporting local businesses.

Some great options include Heights Mercantile, Rice Village Farmers’ Market and Market Square Park Farmers’ Market. Not only do they offer fresh fruits and vegetables, but some also have live music performances by local artists, creating the perfect ambiance for your shopping adventure!

  • Heights Mercantile: 11/26, 12/10
  • Rice Village Farmers Market: 11/19
  • Market Square Park Farmers Market- downtown Houston: 11/18

Pedal Boating at Hermann Park

Not only is pedal boating a great way to immerse yourself in nature as the weather cools down, but it’s also an exciting way to spend time with family or friends.

The boats seat up to four people and allow you to enjoy a peaceful time around the lake pedaling alongside the playful ducks. Enjoy some delightful snacks from the nearby kiosks, support local businesses at the park and go for a fun ride along the lake!

Explore a Pumpkin Patch

Search for the perfect pumpkin for your Thanksgiving spread or for your front door porch by taking a visit to a pumpkin patch! This fall tradition is a staple to this season, offering fun opportunities such as a mini petting zoo or even corn mazes.

Thrift for Vintage Items

Nothing screams fall like thrifting for vintage knick-knacks to spruce up an empty corner or searching for vintage clothing and finding the perfect, one-of-a-kind piece to wear as the leaves begin to fall and the weather begins to cool. This activity is an easy and affordable way to find whimsical and unique pieces in a sustainable way.

Make a Wreath

With finals season slowly turning around the corner, it’s natural for students to feel unbearably anxious. Distracting yourself by making a wreath is an easy and entertaining, hands-on way to destress and focus on what is in front of you.

Feel free to get creative and transport yourself to the good old elementary school days, utilizing small, unused things around your dorm to make this wreath unique to you. And of course, don’t forget to have fun!

Watch a Movie at Rooftop Cinema Club

The Rooftop Cinema Club offers the chance to enjoy a wide variety of movies in an outdoor setting on a rooftop in Downtown. Each day a different movie plays, ranging from adventure to horror to holiday classics and even Y2K movies.

This is a really enjoyable way to spend time watching your favorites outdoors with your friends or family while also trying something different from the typical movie set-up on your laptop, iPad screen or even in the chilly movie theatre.

Crochet or Knit a Sweater

Take on a new hobby of knitting and crocheting to enhance your wardrobe for this fall! There are numerous tutorials online if you are a beginner that can teach you neat tricks that will let you add your personality and character into what you wear!
