UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

Fuerza Regida brought the heat to Houston on Saturday, July 13, 2024, turning the Toyota Center into a pulsating cauldron of energy. Fueled by their recent album “Pa las Baby’s Y Belikeada” and a passionate fanbase, the concert was an unforgettable night that blended infectious music, electrifying stage presence and a touch of surprise.

The stage was a visual feast, bathed in strobing lights and laser beams that mirrored the intensity of frontman Jesus Ortiz Paz, known to his fans as JOP. JOP commanded the stage with infectious energy, dancing from end to end and effortlessly dodging blasts from strategically placed pyro and CO2 cannons.

The band’s signature sound, corrido tumbado, was on full display, the driving bajo sexto and sousaphone laying the foundation for their unique blend of traditional Mexican storytelling and modern hip-hop and trap influences.

The setlist was a crowd-pleaser, featuring a mix of fan favorites from their extensive discography and a few unexpected gems. The venue erupted during high-octane tracks like “Tu Name” and their smash hit “Harley Quinn” with Marshmello.

Fuerza Regida also surprised the audience with well-chosen covers, including Bobby Pulido’s “Desvelado,” The Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah” and a taste of Los Humildes’ “Disculpe Usted.” These unexpected additions showcased the band’s versatility and ability to connect with the audience on a deeper level.

The energy in the Toyota Center was electric throughout the night. The audience, a passionate mix of generations and backgrounds, sang along to every word, their voices blending seamlessly with the powerful sound system. Fuerza Regida’s performance wasn’t just a concert; it was a cultural celebration, a testament to the unifying power of music.

If you have a chance to catch Fuerza Regida on their current tour, don’t miss it. Their high-energy performance and infectious music are guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
