UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

For Formula One fans and car enthusiasts alike, Oracle Red Bull Racing is bringing their championship-winning cars to Discovery Green on September 7.

Beginning at noon, the Red Bull Showrun will spotlight retired F1 driver David Coulthard and Arvid Lindblad, a Red Bull Junior Team driver currently competing in F3.

The attending drivers will be behind the wheels of the RB7 and RB8, both of which were driven by former Red Bull teammates Sebastian Vettel, four-time world champion and Coulthard’s replacement upon retirement, and Mark Webber.

Surrounding Discovery Green for this event will be a temporary track for drivers to impress the crowd with their burnouts and donuts.

The racing spectacle will also include performances from New Zealand drifting racer ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett and off-road racing champion Andrew Carlson.

Aside from driver displays, the event will also feature other activities like racing simulators, a pit stop challenge and photobooths, with Red Bull merchandise available for purchase.

UH’s own Paul Wall will be emceeing a special intermission featuring Houston-based DJ Mr. Rogers and LA-based DJ Hed.

On top of driving and DJ performances, there will be a variety of exhibitions for fans to visit, including one from Circuit of the Americas, the racing track in Austin which hosts one of three F1 United States Grands Prix.

Local food vendors including Tacos A Go Go, Lupe Tortilla and Abu Omar Halal will also be in attendance.

The event is free to the public and despite additional $50 grandstand tickets being added due to popular demand, they once again sold out. No RSVP is needed, and the Red Bull Fan Zone will open two hours prior to the showrun’s opening.

While the showrun ends at 3 p.m., tickets starting at $5 are available for purchase to Red Bull’s Turn it Up, a crowd-judged DJ competition starting at 9 p.m.
