Omar Apollo’s God Said No tour stop in Houston was a night filled with passion, pride and heartfelt emotion. Apollo expressed love, loss and life through Latin Music.

On Thursday, Sept. 19  at the White Oak Music Hall Lawn, dedicated fans stood in line from 8 a.m. Overcome with anticipation, they waited to experience Apollo’s electrifying performance.

With every song, Apollo left a memorable mark on the audience. He showcased his musical growth and his deep connection with his fans.

After an amazing set from his opener, Malcolm Todd, the lights dimmed, the stage filled with smoke and the crowd gasped. There he was–Apollo on stage, opening with his song “Be Careful with Me.”

In front of nearly three thousand cheering fans, the rising indie artist performed at what he called his favorite tour stop so far.

The Indiana-born artist began his second act with “Spite,” “Less of You” and “Done with You,” all songs from his “God Said No” album. The artist had previously explained the album was written to cover a variety of themes: Love, heartbreak and strength.

“I gave it my everything… and God said no.”

Apollo continued to acknowledge obstacles of his past through vulnerable songs like “Dispose of Me” and “Evergreen”– the song that made him a Grammy nominated “Best New Artist.”

“I know y’all liked to hear that sad [music],” Apollo said, “but it’s time to get hype!”

He went on to perform upbeat hits “Kamikaze” and “Tamagotchi.”

Another thing Apollo made clear throughout the night was his pride in his cultural identity. The Mexican-American artist seamlessly switched between English and Spanish in many of the songs he performed.

He performed “ En El Olvido,” a song he wrote in Spanish, with a tribute to ranchera music—a traditional style of music from Mexico, as well as “Dos Uno Nueve,”– another song with a similar ranchera vibe.

Having so much fun, the energetic artist went over curfew. At this point, he had to wrap up quickly. “ I was having a good time. Y’all know how much I love Texas so I had to turn up!” Apollo ended.
