On Friday, March 7 at the House of Blues, Saint Motel performed in Houston for the first time in over five years. Opened by indie-pop band Angel White, they gave an unforgettable performance.

White opened the show with a unique country, folk and soul vibe.

He took the stage in a denim-on-denim outfit with his name, Angel, stitched in gold coloring on his jacket. The outfit was topped with a cowboy hat and bolo tie.

He energized the crowd with a performance of songs from his album Ghost of the West which was released that same day. Songs included “Red Blanket,” “Outlaw,” “2733,” “Down by the River” and “Crossroads.”

One of White’s biggest hits of the night was “Lonestar Girl.” Everyone danced and sang along to lyrics they had just learned. The unreleased song, which serves as a love letter to Texas and Texan women, quickly turned into a crowd favorite. White is looking to release it in the future.

White’s performance made for a great transition into Saint Motel’s.

Before Saint Motel took the stage, fans sang along to Saint Motel songs being belted by the speakers. You could feel the anticipation in the room as a voice came on the loudspeaker counting down Saint Motel’s appearance.

The last time the indie pop band came to Houston was in 2020 shortly before the Coronavirus shut everything down. It was anyone’s guess what to expect from their performance.

The crowd greeted Saint Motel, filling the arena with screams.

The concert mixed nostalgia with new beginnings. The band serenaded the audience with fan favorites from their new album, Saint Motel & the Symphony in the Sky.

Fans rocked out to favorites such as “A Good Song Never Dies,” “Puzzle Pieces” and “Cold Cold Man.” During which, AJ Jackson, the lead singer of the band, dominated the stage.

In an unforgettable moment, Jackson put on a pair of angel wings to sing “Hold My Place in Heaven.” With Houston as the first stop of their tour, they also rendered live debuts of “Life’s a Gas” and “Steady Hand.”

Jackson was an animated and whimsical character on stage. He bent down and sang into the eyes of the first row and even appeared on the balcony. While interacting with fans on the balcony, Jackson explained the importance of the album. The band then performed “A Bluer Blue.”

Jackson also acknowledged how long it had been since they had performed in Houston. “It just gets better and better,” he said.

Saint Motel closed the concert with “My Type.” The crowd loved it.

At that moment, excitement hit its peak. People jumped up and down, bumping into one another. Lights flashed, fans screamed and hands raised as the music played. This was how Saint Motel’s first show on their tour ended.

The Saint Motel & The Symphony in the Sky is a must-see tour.

It promises a lively and unforgettable experience—one of the best tours of the year. Saint Motel’s charisma and fun sound must be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.

Until then, catch up on fan favorites such as “Van Horn,” “Fine Wine,” “Sisters” and “Sweet Talk,” on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and SoundCloud.
