Trends around the world are like the sunrise and sunset: while one trend rises, another one seems to fall.

In a world where the influence of technology is so significant, it’s almost like we wake up to the surge of a new trend every single day when we unlock our phones.

Here are some of the top student hobby trends of fall 2025.

Content Creation

Nowadays, many students wish to romanticize the simple little things in life. One way they do so is by vlogging and creating content. This transforms everyday moments like monotonous study sessions into something more meaningful and intentional.

Whether it’s through creating and sharing a “Day in my Life as a College Student” or “Come With Me to my Internship For a Day” reels on Instagram or vlogging moments from everyday life and sharing it with close friends, more and more people are resorting to creating digital content.

This also allows students to create their own safe space and sense of community where they can share their experiences and lessons with others who may be going through the same phase.

Some college influencers have even found success by sharing their student lives online.

Thread and Yarn Hobbies

Though hobbies like crocheting and knitting are usually perceived to be “grandmacore,” you can find plenty of students with a ball of yarn or a crochet hook near them in their free time. Crochet statistics indicate that over 73% of crocheters are between the ages of 18 and 34.

Gen Z is finding more appeal in cozy hobbies like crocheting and knitting because of the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands. It also serves as a creative form of self-expression and a thoughtful way of giving gifts.

By sharing their love for crocheted creations on platforms like TikTok, students are gaining more interest in these hobbies and many have found a way to monetize this hobby by selling their unique pieces on places like Etsy.

Pickleball

Many college students are choosing to adopt a healthier lifestyle. One way they do so is by engaging in sports.

Unsurprisingly, pickleball happens to be the fastest growing sport in America, with the average age of players lowering by the year.

The rules associated with the sport are simple to understand and don’t require heavy or expensive equipment either. The reason behind its rapid popularity is due to this  ease of playing the sport and the socialization of it.

Many college campuses around the nation are investing in pickleball courts to accommodate the rise in demand among college students. The University of Houston even has an organization for lovers of pickleball, called Coog Pickleball.” More information about it is available through the organization’s Linktree site.

Watching Formula One

Another trending hobby among students is watching and streaming Formula One.

Around 70% of Gen Z students engage in some type of F1 content daily. Survey results reveal that the sport now has a younger fanbase along with a rise in female fans.

Social media is enabling more people to connect with the sport and people eventually end up getting hooked on the fast-paced racing and charismatic race car drivers.

The Netflix show, Formula One: Drive to Survive also plays a role in why more people are gaining interest in watching Formula One. By getting exclusive behind-the-scenes moments and special interviews with the racers and team principals, students have begun to understand the sport more.

The movie about the sport, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, grossed more than $500 million dollars worldwide after its release over the summer of 2025.

Hobbies are no longer just a way for people to pass the time.

For Gen Z, hobbies reflect something more meaningful, allowing them to connect to their true selves as well as bond with others with shared interests. However, it’s only a matter of time before we unlock our phones and get exposed to another new and upcoming hobby trend that would take campuses by storm.
