If you’ve ever tried dieting while also being a college student, then you’ll know firsthand just how difficult it is. However, the Ketogenic diet attracts people from all over the world because of its proven fat-burning results and guaranteed weight loss.
The Keto diet requires participants to cut out sugars and carbs, leaving them to only consume meats, fats, and vegetables. Since carbs are the body’s main energy source, consuming healthy fats instead causes the body to burn fat as its energy source, resulting in quick weight loss.
While being in college, the Keto diet is hard to stick to especially because it requires constant trips to the grocery store. Here are my five favorite easy-to-make Keto snacks that have helped me survive through college while also helping me achieve my weight loss goals.
Pork Rinds
Yes, you read that right. Pork rinds are actually one of the best Keto snacks you can eat because they only contain fats and protein. My favorite brand is the H-E-B Chicharrones Chile Lime because they’re affordable and super tasty! They contain all the right amount of fats you should aim to consume (stay away from trans fats), and they also have a high source of protein. They consist of fried pork skins and salt: the perfect combination for the Keto Diet.
Lettuce Wraps
These are the best on-the-go food especially when you’re in a rush to get to class and you don’t like to meal prep. Just grab some romaine lettuce from your local grocery store, desired protein (the fattier the better), some cheese, and it’s best to top it off with avocado, cream cheese or ranch.
The more fat you add to your foods, the better off you’ll be in the Keto Diet. Remember, your body is relying on fats as its new energy source, so don’t be afraid to grab the ranch, sour cream, avocados, cheeses, bacon, etc.
Plain Greek Yogurt With Blueberries
Trust me, you’re going to miss sweets on the Keto diet, and eating eggs and bacon every morning is going to get old quick! While Greek yogurt and blueberries aren’t full of the fats your body wants, it’s the closest you’re going to get to sweets since it contains very little sugar and carbs.
Don’t be afraid of the sugar and carb content of the Greek yogurt, as long as you stay under 30-50 grams of carbs per day your body will stay in the state of ketosis. Also berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries) are the only recommended fruits to eat while on the Keto diet, so don’t you worry your pretty little head about falling out of ketosis.
String Cheese
String cheese is probably one of the best Keto snacks, alongside pork rinds. It is high in healthy fats and contain protein while having no carbs or sugars. With its high fat and protein, string cheese is one of my favorite snacks especially when I wrap some deli meat of my choice around it.
Jerky!
You can find jerky anywhere from gas stations to grocery stores to convenient stores. However, always make sure to look on the nutrition list. Because, while maple jerky may sound amazing, it probably has high sugar content.
With these on-the-go Keto snacks, you should be able to maintain your diet and stop your stomach from crying in midst of your lectures. Best of luck to you!
