As winter break draws nearer, we all can’t wait to get cozy in our beds and watch TV for hours this holiday season. The shows on this list aren’t necessarily holiday-themed but bring joy and comfort at a time when we are all in need of a recharge.

Gilmore Girls

Of course, no list of cozy shows is complete without ‘Gilmore Girls.’ Stars Hollow is the epitome of comfort and Lorelai and Rory’s quick comebacks are something the audience can watch over and over again.

Nothing is more comforting than watching these characters love and be there for one another through everything. Lorelai’s “smelling the first snowfall” of the year in almost every season really brings the winter vibes.

Full House

Full House is the classic American family sitcom with the golden retriever and all. Every episode ends with a heartfelt lesson that the characters learn and demonstrates the unconditional love this family has for one another.

It’s the perfect light-hearted show to get cozy and drink hot chocolate while watching. A favorite Christmas episode chronicles the family getting stuck in an airport on their way to Colorado due to a blizzard. This forced proximity, of course, sparks some heartfelt conversations between the characters that really shine the holiday spirit.

Gossip Girl

Christmas in the Upper East Side of New York is iconic in this show. While the drama does make it a nail-biter at times, New York City at Christmas time brings ultimate comfort. The fancy Christmas parties and dances make the viewer dream of being a Manhattan socialite.

The Middle

This show focuses on a more realistic American family. The Hecks are constantly struggling for money and their financial status is a pretty big focal point of the show. However, they’re always able to make it through whatever challenges life throws at them with the help of their family and neighbors.

The many holiday episodes feature the family going to church (the only time of year they go), Christmas pageants and holiday parties. The mundaneness is the best part of this show.

Superstore

The characters in this show are what make it an amazing program. They all work in a big-box store, similar to Walmart, and one would think that this would make for a boring setting. However, the characters have holiday parties together, go through life struggles and become real, genuine friends.

The manager does the best he can for his employees, and throws them an “all-the-days” party in one of the last episodes, as they didn’t get to have their usual Christmas party due to COVID. The relationships that are brought to life in this show make it a heartwarming sitcom that again, is such an easy show to watch if you want something generally lighthearted.

Friends

Again, these shows are all about the characters. Friends has so many Christmas episodes, and the connections between the characters in these really make them feel-good episodes.

Additionally, Friends has an episode about Hanukkah as well, in “The One With the Holiday Armadillo.” In this episode, Ross dresses as an armadillo to tell his son the story of Hanukkah and teaches him about their Jewish heritage.

Downton Abbey

Christmas at Downton Abbey will always be a dream. The elaborate decorations, feasts and dresses are the peak of luxury. While the ethics of having a manor quite this big may be questionable today, the lavish Christmas parties thrown are iconic.

Sitcoms have such a warm, real-life feeling, which makes for cozy shows to watch during the winter season. While some may still have some sad storylines, it all ends up working out in the end for these characters, as they are all such an integral part of each other’s lives. The holiday episodes of these shows in particular capture the winter spirit.
