The revolution returns to Houston with “Hamilton” at the Hobby Center, now through March 23.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning, Broadway musical chronicles the rise and fall of the founding father, Alexander Hamilton. With original music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it is based on Ron Chernow’s biography.

Through the blended hip-hop, rap and jazz score, the saga chronicles Hamilton’s life and political story, as he fights for freedom, honor and love in hopes of leaving a legacy behind.

The musical is divided evenly between two acts.

The show opens with the cast introducing ‘Alexander Hamilton’ with the perfect mixture of energy and choreography.

The cast opens the musical and allows the audience a glimpse of what to expect through the musical.

Tyler Fauntleroy played the titular character with a mixture of hunger and a need to prove himself. Much like Hamilton himself, Fauntleroy’s portrayal of the character rose to the occasion and shined bright in the musical through “My Shot,” “Hurricane” and “Non-Stop.”

Playing the role of Arron Burr, Jimmie “JJ” Jeter brought patience and precision to his character and took his time telling the story of his formidable foe and friend. Jeter’s rendition of “Wait for It” and “The World Was Wide Enough” were as faithful as they were heartbreaking.

Perhaps the star who stole the show was Lauren Mariasoosay as Eliza Hamilton.

Every time Mariasoosay was on stage, she stood out and made a mark on the audience.

Her easy chemistry with Angelica and Alexander made her an enjoyable character. Her heartbreak and agony were gut-wrenching in “Burn” and “It’s Quiet Uptown.”

The easy chemistry between the cast multiplied the energy in the ensemble songs such as “Yorktown,” “Cabinet Battle #1,” “Cabinet Battle #2” and “Satisfied.”

The show’s score and choreography capture the war setting as well as moments of Hamilton’s life and political debates. The show flows easily from the fight for a free nation to the demise of Hamilton’s life as he works to leave behind a legacy.

The musical offers a cultural and immersive look at the history of the Nation’s founding.

Even those unfamiliar with the musical will have no problem following along and learning the struggles and triumphs of Hamilton.

The stand-out cast and the stunning performances are well worth a visit to the theater. The 11-Tony-winning musical remains in Houston for a two-week engagement through March 23 at the Hobby Center.
