Good news for Houston movie fans, The Katy Alamo Drafthouse is getting ready to open its brand new doors on Monday, July 2 along with discounted food prices during the course of their staff training period.
The new theater will be located in the La Centerra shopping plaza in Cinco Ranch.
The official opening will take place Friday, July 20, where there will be showings of two highly anticipated movie sequels: “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” and “The Equalizer 2.”
After entering the lobby you will notice the authentic western bar, the currently naked walls (which will soon be decorated with movie posters featuring movie stars like John Wayne) and memorabilia (including the famous carpet from “The Shining” that decorates the lobby).
At the Alamo Drafthouse, the smallest theater seats up to 40 people; the largest one seats 139 movie-goers in recliner seats. The theaters don’t include the usual too-close-to-the-screen front row so that viewers can enjoy the quality of the Sony 4K Laser Projectors, each one as big as a wardrobe. Also, Alamo Drafthouse is one of the few theaters where an actual projectionist is on site at all times to ensure the best picture quality for every film.
However, projectionists aren’t the only ones working hard at the Alamo Drafthouse. There are also bartenders, servers, ushers, cashiers and many cooks that work in the kitchen to ensure food orders don’t show up at the very end of the movie.
The kitchen can handle up to 700 entrees an hour including dozens of new food options and none of the foods are pre-made. So, even at full capacity nothing gets backed up, and the ordering works via cards, like at other Alamo Drafthouse theaters. The kitchen even contains a gluten-free special feature: one area is specifically assigned for gluten-free cooking to avoid cross-contamination with regular food.
All the other rules we know from other Drafthouse cinemas apply here: no kids are allowed (unless it’s a children’s movie) and phone checkers have to leave after the first warning so that everyone can enjoy the movie without interruption.
That being said, there are still many screenings for children, as well as special show times for sensory sensitive people, which include more light in the theater and the digital surround sound will be toned down.
Other special events include sing- and quote-along movies, a film-club with discussions, afternoon tea with a three-course-menu, a graveyard shift for horror fans and plenty of others on a regular basis.
The new Alamo Drafthouse at the LaCenterra mall in Cinco Ranch has everything a film lovers crave. It’s clear this theater chain is made by movie fans for movie fans. A perfect experience is waiting for you in Katy, and more Houston locations are in the works.
