The critically acclaimed North American tour of “The Sound of Music” premiered in Houston on Sept. 29, 2026, kicking off the Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center 2026-2027 Season.
The Tony Award winning musical classic takes the audience to the hills of Austria for a visual journey about love, sacrifice, and resilience.
“The Sound of Music” follows Maria Rainer as she becomes the newest stewardess to the von Trapp family, consisting of Captain Georg von Trapp and the seven von Trapp children.
While forming a special bond with the family, Maria also introduces music to the children’s lives through songs like “Do-Re-Mi.”
Directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O’Brien, with music from the legendary Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, the show is a testament to the power of music.

From the hills of Austria, to the church, to the von Trapp household, the set design effectively transported the audience to the world of “The Sound of Music.”
Intricate transitions and set pieces displayed the phenomenal level of artistry put on by the technical artists behind this production.
The show also showcased fantastic vocal power from Cayleigh Capaldi, who plays Maria, and Lisa Howard, who plays Mother Abbess.
“This is the most beautiful production you’ve ever seen of a classic on stage. I urge you, experience this breathtakingly beautiful production,” says Mark on the Arts.
