Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” premiered on Jun. 16, 2026, as part of a limited three-week engagement at The Wortham Center in Houston.

The critically acclaimed musical is based on the powerful Victor Hugo novel, and features music from the Disney film adaptation. The story follows four distinct characters, all representing different classes and identities within fifteenth-century Paris.

The central character, Quasimodo, lives at the top of the Notre Dame bell tower, forcibly removed from the rest of society. Quasimodo, his cruel guardian Frollo and the charming Captain Phoebus all become enthralled by a Romani woman named Esmeralda.

The male characters’ fascination with Esmeralda causes a series of events that ultimately change the course of Parisian history.

Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” at The Wortham Center showcases a multitude of talents.

The show includes powerful music from a live orchestra, vocals from a live choir and fantastic acting from the cast.

Following the show, audience member Brittany Mkparu says “The musical performances brought so much life to the story of Quasimodo. Tyce Green did wonderfully in portraying the character and his struggles. The orchestra was fantastic at making the audience feel the emotions of the show itself, my favorite part was them playing the original score from the Disney movie.”

The incredible use of lighting and visual effects to set the scene is a highlight of the show. A variety of different backdrops were used to progress the story, including an overhead view of the streets of Paris, a beautiful sunset and a close up of Quasimodo.

“The cast’s ability to tell such a compelling story without a full physical set is a testament to the set designers’ attention to detail. The projector work was fantastic, whether it was using the lighting to set different scenes, act out the magic or displaying Quasimodo’s face, it was all beautiful,” further states Mkparu.

Don’t miss the powerful musical full of emotion and symbolism. Get tickets for Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” at The Wortham Center, running now until Jul. 5, 2026.
