Tony Award winning drama “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” premiered in Houston on Jul. 14, 2026, as part of the Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center 2025-2026 Season.
The critically acclaimed jukebox musical originates from the 2001 Academy Award winning film “Moulin Rouge!”
The show follows Christian, a poor writer living in 1890s Paris who falls in love with Satine, the star of the famous Moulin Rouge nightclub.
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is a celebration of life, with primary themes of truth, beauty, freedom and love.
The stage production of the illustrious romance is nothing short of spectacular. From the streets of nineteenth century Paris, to the interior of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, the show is a testament to fantastic set design.

After watching the show, audience member and University of Houston alumna Kimberly Jackson says, “The set was very colorful and intricate. I loved the design for Satine’s dressing room, it had so many bright colors and it was super girly.”
From costume design, to makeup, to sound effects, the technical aspects of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” created a world of art, music, and dance for the audience to immerse themselves in.
“The costumes were well thought out and fit the personality of each character. The dance numbers were very entertaining and captivating as well,” further states Jackson.
