UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

School is out, summer begins and the sun rises on the Big as Texas Music Festival in Conroe, Texas.

Since 1957, Montgomery County Fairgrounds has been home to county fairs, rodeos and live concerts. From 12-11 P.M. on Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 12, it will be the venue for the inaugural Big as Texas Music Festival.

Cooglife will be taking you through all three days of live country music and entertainment across two stages and 15 acres of land.

Friday starts off strong with performances by Maddie & Tae, Breland, Colt Ford, Chase Matthew, Mackenzie Porter, War Hippies, Drew Parker, Julia Cole, Jean Watts and Caleb Young. Festival-goers cannot miss the closing performances by Thomas Rhett, Clay Walker and Corey Kent.

Saturday keeps the festivities going with performances from Los Lobos, The Fearless Flyers, Tracy Byrd, Kidd G, Amanda Shires, Alana Springsteen, Buffalo Nichols, Trent Cowie, Drew Ryn and Garrison Nunn. Closing performances for Saturday night feature Billy Strings, Dwight Yoakam and Warren Zeiders.

Sunday ends things on a high note with Drake Milligan, 49 Winchester, Anne Wilson, Jamestown Revival, Baby Bash, Scotty Alexander, Braxton Keith, Kate Watson, The Heels and Smithfield. Closing performances wrap up the festivities with music from Dierks Bentley, Midland and Morgan Wade.

While festival-goers enjoy the sounds of Country both new and old, they’ll have the opportunity to explore what the rest of the fairgrounds has in store. The Livestock Barn will host culinary and car shows, and the Arena across the way will be the site of equestrian horse training.

Originally the venue was hosting Carnival Town USA, but due to recent flooding in the area, the festival will not be hosting that section. Other experiences include custom hats created by Travis Austin, a trio of live muralists, chainsaw wood carving and more!

But this festival isn’t just about guitar strumming and rodeo shows, it’s also about community support.  Big as Texas will be partnering with 35+ nonprofits to donate 10% of all net ticket proceeds to suicide prevention. Make sure to stop by the non-profit village at the center of the fair to learn more!

Along with non-profits, 51 sponsors and numerous artisan vendors will be set up around the festival. Sponsors such as Busch Light, Dunkin’ and Evamor will be found south of the Armadillo stage. Artisan vendors will be selling their wares in the Livestock Barn and East of the Dosey Doe Media Stage.

Children under 10 receive free admission and can look forward to the bouncy house south of the Armadillo stage, while adults can enjoy the Beer Garden located in the Livestock Barn. For those who would like to avoid commuting, RV parking and Glamping options are available.

For more information about navigation, on-site locker access, acceptable items lists and show times, check out the Big as Texas website here.

Be sure to stay tuned for Cooglife’s coverage of all three days of country tunes.
