UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

The University of Houston hosted its annual Frontier Fiesta the weekend of April 11, delivering a wicked-good time to Fiestagoers.

For the weekend, the TDECU Stadium parking lot transformed into “Fiesta City,” decked out with a city hall, saloon and even a Cougar Casino. The three-day event featured giveaways from Monster Energy, the Houston Rockets, Postmates and more.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of student-led shows, each put on by campus organizations. Fraternities and sororities kept the energy high with step shows and other performances, while the Red Poet Society delivered powerful spoken word pieces.

Inside Cougar Casino, attendees tried their luck at games for a chance to win big prizes, including a PlayStation 5. Elsewhere, excited guests lined up to ride the mechanical bull or take in the view from the Ferris wheel.

The final night featured a concert headlined by platinum rapper Nardo Wick.

The show opened with a high-energy performance by up-and-coming artist 4Elamin, who delivered a mix of cult classic covers such as “No Hands” by Waka Flocka Flame and original songs from his personal catalog.

The setlist featuring sounds of rap, EDM, dancehall and pop served as the perfect soundtrack. The crowd lit up the sky with glow sticks as they danced the night away.

When Nardo Wick emerged on the Budlight stage, the crowd erupted. They greeted the rapper with screams of excitement, pushing forward for a better view.

Wick paused, soaking in the cheers for a moment before he kicked off his set with “Wickman.” Fans energetically rapped along with each lyric. They joyfully shouted “Wickman, wickman, wickman,” as the song closed. The rapper then seamlessly launched into “Alright.”

As his performance continued, more Fiestagoers migrated over to join the already packed concert space.

“Wicked Freestyle” echoed throughout the night air, and the audience moved in sync waving from left to right. Fiesta energy reached an all-time high during the chorus of “Wicked Witch.” Wick lowered his microphone while the crowd belted out the lyrics, “She want Gucci, Louis, Dior, Prada.”

The Florida native capped his set off with “Who Want Smoke?” During this, he momentarily jumped off stage into the audience, sending concertgoers into a frenzy.

And once the concert ended, Frontier Fiesta didn’t. Attendees headed over to the city hall to end the night with a glow party.
