During the last weekend of Apr. 2026, PlantCon returned to Houston at NRG arena.
PlantCon is a community driven plant convention and marketplace aimed to bring together plant lovers from all over the world. PlantCon serves as both Houston’s first annual plant convention, and the largest plant hobbyist convention in the nation.
“At PlantCon, our mission is to create an inclusive space where every plant lover feels at home. We strive to be a welcoming home for curiosity, learning and connection—a place where plant hobbyists, local businesses, community members and industry pioneers meet as friends.”

With a focus on BIPOC and AAPI visibility, PlantCon promotes inclusion by showcasing over 150 booths that represent small businesses, international plant organizations and much more.
Beginning in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, PlantCon started as an idea from the mind of President and Founder Kenny Nguyen. In a time when connections based on shared hobbies were scarce, Nguyen began organizing local meetups for plant lovers with an emphasis on safety.
As the local plant community grew larger, so did the events. By 2022, these meetings expanded into a centralized hub for local plant commerce known as Houston Plant Market. The following year, the first official PlantCon was launched, making this year the convention’s fourth consecutive year.
“By making these connections, sharing our knowledge on horticulture and spreading our passion for plants, we create a unique space where new ideas spark and lifelong partnerships bud, growing a kinder and greener future for everyone.”

Over the years, PlantCon has made significant strides in bringing the plant community together.
Nguyen gives a great deal of appreciation to the attendees and vendors, who have consistently contributed to the advancement of his beloved creation.
“Starting from scratch and building a hub has really set things apart. Building up that trust, and meeting all these vendors and attendees who see the level of execution, care and kindness that goes into it is what made PlantCon possible. That trust is everything,” states Nguyen.
As a Gen-Z and LGBTQIA+ led organization, PlantCon emphasizes acceptance while creating fun, family-friendly events. Accordingly, PlantCon hosts a variety of panels, presentations and workshops that bring diverse perspectives together.
“I don’t want anything to stop people from coming out, and feeling like they can connect with others. Whoever you are, however you look, whatever you’re wearing, just come out and make connections. That’s how you make the world a better place,” states Nguyen.
PlantCon is filled with activities, culture and community, making it an event that anyone can enjoy. Check out the PlantCon website to learn more about the organization and upcoming events.
