The Texas heat couldn’t hold a candle to the electrifying energy Cage the Elephant brought to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on July 12, 2024. While their latest album, “Neon Pill,” got a spotlight with a few tracks, the night was a celebration of the band’s entire discography, leaving a packed amphitheater buzzing long after the final note.

The open-air venue took on a festival atmosphere as the sun dipped below the horizon. The stage lights pulsed, bathing frontman Matt Shultz in a purple haze as he launched into the show.

Despite the balmy temperatures, Shultz’s signature frenetic energy was on full display. He danced, twirled, and commanded the stage with his captivating presence.

The setlist was a potent mix of new and old. Tracks from “Neon Pill” like “Ready to Let Go” showcased the band’s evolution, while classics like “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” and “Shake Me Down” had the entire audience singing along. The band itself seemed to be feeding off the crowd’s enthusiasm, delivering a tight and ferocious performance.

Warming up the crowd with a stellar set of their own, Young the Giant proved to be a perfect choice for opening duties.

Their brand of alternative rock, with its soaring vocals and catchy melodies, had the audience primed for the high-octane energy of Cage the Elephant. Tracks like “Cough Syrup” and “Mind Over Matter” got the early arrivals moving, and the band’s tight musicianship ensured a seamless transition between the two acts.

Young the Giant’s set was a satisfying appetizer, leaving the crowd wanting more and setting the stage for the main course.

With the perfect blend of established favorites and fresh energy, Cage the Elephant ensured a night to remember at the Woodlands Pavilion. Shultz’s raw charisma and the band’s infectious blend of rock, blues, and garage punk kept the crowd on their feet for the entire show. If you have a chance to catch them on the Neon Pill Tour, don’t miss it – it’s a night you won’t forget.
