UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

Fans often have specific artists they go to see at music festivals. The beauty of these festivals, however, is there are so many musical performances and acts across the stages, including big names and emerging artists.

With so many options, festivalgoers are bound to discover new artist they didn’t know before. In fact, it is the most memorable thing to being able to leave a music festival with a list of new artists added to your playlist.

Here are four emerging artists featured during the recent Austin City Limits Festival everyone should keep an eye out for.

1. Benson Boone

Benson Boone took the Honda stage at ACL at 6:10 p.m. and brought an infectious energy with him. Boone played a variety of different songs during his set, such as his latest single “Pretty Slowly” and “Beautiful Things,” arguably his most famous song.

Boone’s performance was precious. He had fun on stage and in turn allowed the audience to enjoy the show three-times more.

The 22-year-old has his album “Fireworks & Rollerblades” and an EP “PULSE” out. He was also a part of the “Twisters soundtrack” where he sang a country-folk-ish song, showcasing his versatility.

Furthermore, the singer-songwriter’s songs are delicately crafted with strong vocals and lyrics. While Boone is rising in flame slowly, he will certainly be an artist to keep in your playlists.

2. Myles Smith

Myles Smith took the BMI stage on Sunday weekend two of ACL. His breezy, folky and melodic pop music spread an infectious energy through the crowd.

Smith sang his most popular song “Stargazing” and a cover of The Neighborhoods “Sweater Weather” during his set and delivered a memorable performance.

The British singer-songwriter debuted his EP “You Promised A Lifetime” in an acoustic version as well. While this catalog does not have many songs right now, his stage presence at ACL and the handful of the songs he has out, certainly set him up as one of those emerging artists to keep an eye on.

3. Qveen Herby

Qveen Herby is the alter-ego of Amy Renee Heidemann Noonan, a Seward, Nebraskan singer-songwriter and rapper. At the BMI stage Herby lit the stage with a theatrical setup and gave a performance filled with fun moments and costume changes.

She played some of her most popular songs such as “Juice,” “MY SZN,” “Vitamins” and “Sugar Daddy.”

She was a part of the music duo, Karmin, who released two studio albums. As a solo artist, Herby has kept the momentum going by releasing two EPs a year.

While Herby has been a part of the industry since 2010, her music can be described as super cool. More so, she is one of those emerging artists you should definitely include on your “Hot Girl” playlist.

4. Jonah Kagen

Jonah Kagen opened the second day of ACL weekend two on the T-Mobile stage. His folk-indie songs started the day with melancholy and deep lyricism.

Kagen was open on stage and talked about leaving home at 14. He even sang his song “Pollution” inspired by it. To end the set, he sang the unreleased “Chrissy,” a somber song inspired by his mom’s life.

His music is filled with pop-folk indie soundtracks and beautiful lyricism.

The singer-songwriter has an album “georgia got colder” and EP “The Roads” out right now. Fans of Noah Kahan and Dean Lewis should definitely check him out.
