Friday, Nov. 7, Big Thief brought a magical and atmospheric performance to White Oak Music Hall. With changing cool and warm lighting and constant fog in the background, the band transformed the outdoor venue into a dreamlike space.

The band moved through a wonderful setlist starting with “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You,” and moving through fan favorites like “Shark Smile,” “Vampire Empire,” “Simulation Swarm” and “Mary.”

Each song was played with passion and intensity, each instrument expressing intention and feeling.

A sweet moment came after the song “Incomprehensible” when lead singer Adrianne Lenker paused to thank everyone behind the scenes, from lighting techs to their bus driver. Her sincerity added an extra warmth to the night and reminded the crowd of their care and desire to put on a good show.

Before the show closed with an energetic encore of their song “Spud Infinity,” guitarist Buck Meek gave a small comment on how glad he was to be back in his hometown, all in all leaving the audience with a positive and upbeat note while being bathed in the blue glow of the stage lights.

Overall, Big Thief delivered an extremely heartfelt and passionate performance, the mix of ambiance and playing fit just right with the openness of the White Oak lawn, creating an unforgettable night.
