In a time of stress, anxiety and struggle for much of Houston, Karbach Brewing Co. has stepped up to provide some much needed relief in the form of free music and cold beer. As of last weekend, it’s officially Karbachtoberfest over at the Biergarten, which means live musical performances every weekend through Oct 7. Two local pioneers,— not only in the rap game but for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts as well — kicked off the celebration.
Taking the stage first was rapper Trae Tha Truth, who recently released his latest album “Tha Truth, Pt. 3,” featuring the likes of Post Malone, Young Thug and DRAM. By no means an opener in the live music world, Trae effortlessly engaged the packed Biergarten and got the crowd hyped for following-act Bun B.
Although he rose to popularity several years back, Bun B has managed to not only remain relevant since the inception of his career, but he’s also utilized his relevance and resulting network within the industry to better his hometown of Houston. In fact, just four days before his performance at Karbach Brewing Co., he played a major role in raising nearly $55 million for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts during a national telethon called “Hand in Hand.” The show aired Sept. 12 across the U.S. and featured celebrities ranging from Justin Bieber to George Strait and Jamie Foxx. To no surprise, the star remained humbly behind the scenes for the majority of the telethon, making only a quick statement about his hometown, and he soon returned to Houston from Hollywood and performed at Karbachtoberfest later in the week. As to be expected, his performance included salutes to industry greats and timeless hits that kept the audience on their feet from start to finish.
