UH's lifestyle and entertainment magazine - by students, for students

Whether you are a tea lover, a coffee fanatic or just enjoy having some kind of beverage near you at all times, it is always fun to switch it up from just water. A drink with dinner is kind of a necessity, and for the over-21 crowd, an alcoholic beverage will do.

For those looking to make fun drinks without the spirits for any reason, here are some recipes for you. As a bonus, we’ll make it even easier on you and only require five ingredients or less.

Shirley Temple

This is a classic. It’s the first mocktail many people’s parents let them get when they’re out at dinner as a kid. But, there is no age limit on a delicious drink.

What You Will Need

  • 2 Tbsp of Grenadine
  • Lemon-Lime Soda (Sprite or 7-Up)
  • Maraschino Cherry (garnish)

And for a little extra something-something at the end, feel free to top the drink with a little bit of cherry juice.

Cranberry Lime-ade

This may resemble what it was like to drink Kool-Aid or Capri Sun as a kid. This drink with a twist and a cup rimmed in sugar can elevate a childhood classic into something more adult.

What You Will Need

  • 2 cups of cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 of lemonade
  • a slice of lime (garnish)

If you want the fun and bubbly aspect of the drink, feel free to top it off with a tonic water!

Pi-NOT Colada

A staple for a day on the beach, you should be able to enjoy a Pina Colada without the rum. Consider making this mocktail frozen or on the rocks.

What You Will Need

  • 2 cups of pineapple juice
  • 3 Tbsps of coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup of coconut sparkling water
  • 1 Tbsp of honey or agave syrup
  • 2 Tbsps of fresh lime juice

An umbrella and fun-colored straw is almost a necessity while drinking this.

Mock Mule

Sometimes, the drink itself doesn’t matter as much as getting to hold a fun cup. Moscow Mules notoriously have those gold, goblet-like cups to put the drink into, but you don’t need the liquor in order to sip a drink from them.

What You Will Need

  • 1 and 1/2 cups of ginger beer
  • 1 cup of lime sparkling water
  • 2 Tbsps of fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1 piece of candied ginger (chop finely and add on top)

Don’t be afraid to add a lime wedge to garnish, or switch out the lime sparkling water with a non-alcoholic seltzer.

Virgin Sunrise

Maybe in Malibu, they can stick to spiking their drinks, but you don’t need alcohol to enjoy a sunrise (even in drink form).

What You Will Need

  • 1/2 cup of pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice
  • 2 Tbsps of coconut milk
  • 1 Tbsp of grenadine
  • 1 maraschino cherry (garnish)

Don’t limit yourself to just enjoying this mocktail on the beach, make it a dinner drink or something fun for the family to all take part in.
